Stolpen - a small town on a hilltop - is interesting because of a majestic castle ruin towering over the town. Here the mistress of Prince August the Strong, the intelligent and beautiful countess Cosel, was imprisoned until her death. You should not miss the castle when you are interested in the history of Saxony and its noble family, the Wettins. From the battlements of the castle you have a wonderful view over the hilly lands of Saxony. The market place of Stolpen, rising steeply towards the castle, will remind you of a medieval town.
